12th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment

The monument to the 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment at Antietam is on Mansfield Avenue. It was dedicated on September 17, 1904. see location

 

The 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry was commanded at the Battle of Antietam by Major James A. Congdon. It was on independent duty with the Provost Marshal rounding up stragglers and handling Confederate prisoners behind the First and Twelfth Corps lines.
