Antietam National Cemetery is on the east side of Sharpsburg on the south side of Main Street. A number of monuments are inside the walls of the cemetery, which can be entered through the gate next to the lodge.
The cemetery is the final resting place to 4,776 Union soldiers from the Civil War and 261 soldiers from later dates. The graves are laid out by state. About a third are “unknowns.” A plan of the layout is just inside the cemetery gate.
