Indiana Monuments at Antietam

The monument is made from Barre, Vermont Granite. All the Indiana monuments at Antietam were designed by sculptor John K. Lowe and manufactured by the J.N. Forbes Company of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. They were dedicated on September 17, 1910, the 48th anniversary of the battle.

About the 7th Indiana at Antietam

The regiment was held in reserve north of the Poffemberger farm to cover the corps artillery from Confederate Cavalry that was on the northwest flank of Lee’s army. It suffered no casualties in the battle.

Location of the monument

The monument at Antietam to the 7th Indiana Infantry is north of Sharpsburg on the east side of the Hagerstown Road (Maryland Route 65). It is about 210 yards north of Mansfield Road.
