In the 1890’s the War Department created a series of over 200 interpretive markers to help visitors to the Antietam battlefield better understand the story of the battle. These are divided into Union markers (numbered 1- 124) and Confederate markers (numbered 300 – 388). A handful of other markers point out terrain features of the battlefield. Although a couple of dozen markers have not survived, we know their text and location and they are included here.
