The monument to the 19th Indiana Infantry Regiment at Antietam is on the east side of Hagerstown Turnpike south of Cornfield Avenue. (Philadelphia Brigade Park tour map).
The 19th Indiana is also honored by a monument at Gettysburg.
About the monument
The monument is made from Barre, Vermont Granite. It and the other Indiana monuments at Antietam were designed by sculptor John K. Lowe and manufactured by the J.N. Forbes Company of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. They were dedicated on the 48th anniversary of the battle on September 17, 1910.
The 19th Indiana Infanty at Antietam
The regiment was commanded by 23 year old Lieutenant Colonel Bachman. He was was mortally wounded, and 19 year old Captain Dudley took command.
