Monuments to Individuals at Antietam
The main monument to Major General Joseph Mansfield at Antietam is located on Smoketown Road at the intersection with Mansfield Monument Road. It was dedicated on May 24, 1900. A mortuary cannon honoring General Mansfield is a few yards to the east down Mansfield Monument Road. (Smoketown Road North tour map)

Looking east from Smoketown Road. Mansfield Monument Road runs into the distance. The Mansfield Mortuary Cannon is a short distance away behind the trees to the immediate left of the monument.

This is one of six “mortuary cannons” placed on the Antietam battlefield to honor six generals, three Union and three Confederate, who were killed or mortally wounded at Antietam.
