(1) Captain Nathaniel H. Harris was the senior captain of the regiment, and all the field officers were absent wounded or sick. But records show Harris was also absent, badly wounded at Second Manassas
(2) The 61st Virginia is sometimes listed with the brigade at Sharpsburg but it did not join until November
(3) Brigadier General William Mahone had been wounded at Second Manassas
(4) Lieutenant Colonel Thomas B. Lamar was wounded on September 14 at Crampton’s Gap
(5) Brigadier General Wilcox had been left behind sick at Martinsburg
