Notes:
(1) Archer was ill, and on the march from Harpers Ferry to Sharpsburg he turned the brigade over to Colonel Turney while following in am ambulance. He resumed command on the battlefield.
(2) Remained at Harpers Ferry on the 17th
(3) A monument to Brigadier General Branch is on Branch Avenue
(4) General Jackson had placed Barnes under arrest for allowing his men to take apples from a tree against orders. A.P. Hill ordered his brigade commander, Maxcy Gregg, to return him his sword and place him back in command of his regiment, where he was mortally wounded, dying two days later.
