Notes:
The six brigades commanded by Brigadier General D.R. Jones at Antietam – three from Magruder’s old division and three just added from Longstreet’s old division after Second Manassas – were not yet an official division. Jones commanded them as senior brigadier, and his brigade was under the command of George T. Anderson as senior colonel. The arrangement would almost certainly been made permanent and Jones promoted to major general in October but for his heart disease, which forced him to retire from field command and would kill him January of 1863.

(1) Lieutenant Colonel George S. James was killed at Fox’s Gap on South Mountain on 9/14
(2) Major Adam Clement was wounded on 9/14 at South Mountain
