Notes:
(1) Colonel Humphreys was sick at the time of the battle but reached the battlefield by the end of the day. Captain Sims remained in command but Humphreys “cheered and animated the whole brigade”
(2) When Lt. Colonel Sanders’ 24th Georgia withdrew from the fighting Lt. Colonel MacRae temporarily took command of those regiments of the brigade still in line of battle
(3) Lieutenant Colonel Jefferson M. Lamar was mortally wounded at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 9/14.
(4) Captain Hard was 19 years old
(5) Colonel John W. Henagen was wounded at Harpers Ferry on 9/13
(6) Major Willis C. Holt was wounded at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 9/14
(7) Captain Loud took over command when Major Holt was wounded on 9/14, but Captain Johnston is listed as commanding at Sharpsburg, with Loud “assisting.” Both captains were wounded and left the field.
(8) Colonel Cabell had been absent sick but joined the army mid-battle and resumed his command
(9) Captain Macon was probably still near Bolivar heights during the battle, while Lieutenant Clopton and one section of the battery were at Sharpsburg
